Huddersfield Carnival is one of the largest outdoor festivals in West Yorkshire for the whole family to enjoy.
Carnival Parade on Saturday 13th July, 1pm to 4pm
Masqueraders dress in an array of flamboyant costumes and parade through the streets. The procession starts at the Hudawi Cultural Centre and makes its way through the streets of Huddersfield town centre, travelling up Trinity Street and ending in Greenhead Park.
Carnival Show – Saturday 13th July, 2pm to 8pm
The Carnival Show takes place in Greenhead park. There will be two stages of entertainment and live music plus charity stalls and stalls showcasing traditional food, arts and culture.
Huddersfield Carnival is an annual event organised by the Huddersfield African Caribbean Cultural Trust (made up of volunteers from the community) in partnership with Kirklees Council. It continues to be one of the largest and most culturally diverse events in Kirklees.
The 2013 Kirkstall Festival will take place on Saturday 13th July in the picturesque grounds of the 12th Century Kirkstall Abbey. The Festival is probably the largest community festival in Leeds run entirely by volunteers. Last year attracted around 16,000 people. It is not a Rock Festival, or a County Show, but an event that will entertain people of all ages with events including:
Fairground
Over 100 stalls
Youth Stage
Tea Dance
8 performance areas
Comedy; Rock, Classical, Jazz, Folk and Light music

Chance to Dance is a one day city centre dance festival that was established in 2000. The original idea came from Sheffield’s involvement in the World Health Organisation European Healthy City Movement. When Turku a city in Finland challenged other European cities to organise a city centre dance festival in the streets of their city.
The one day Sheffield Festival was very popular involving around 30 different dance groups on open ‘stages’ across the city centre. Dance groups reflect the wide diversity of cultures and types of dance available in the city. Part of the ethos of the festival is to encourage people to join in and have a go. This means that, since the start of Chance to Dance, up to 50,000 people have taken part in trying out different forms of dance – from Salsa to Bhangra from Ballroom to Modern Jive.

I opened my own little vintage shop in Horsforth north Leeds in September. I try to work with other local independant businesses as much as possible and now have hair and make-up classes, sewing classes and more in the pipeline using the space upstairs in my shop. I am holding a vintage teaparty and fayre on Sunday 7th July in aid of St.Gemma’s Hospice.
